As we approach the convergence of movie, cable and network content with mobile smart phone platforms, one wonders if the sluggish economy is delaying the speed which we adopt mobile video content services—or if the technology is clearly not ready yet to fully support these mobile services and tip the user-experience-scale.
From what I can tell, the same mobile feature still holds the same level of importance as it did 15 years ago—BATTERY LIFE. If I am going to pay for mobile streamed content, I want to be able to watch a full episode of 30 Rock without being plugged into a power outlet at the airport in order to keep my phone charged for the remainder of the day. So forget Talk Time vs. Standby Time…consumers need Video Time.
One could argue that consumers are not willing to put up with another up-charge for an on-demand or monthly service—but I think we’re ready. My dad, for example, (not the most technologically progressive guy) is debating whether to subscribe to Pandora paid service vs. the free content that is offered. If this is the case, we’re ready to pay for mobile video content. Just give us a truly lasting mobile platform to view it on…
