Why I'm Going To CES

January 9, 2012 9:12 AM | Posted By: Kalyn Haba, Art Director

The biggest tech trade show in the United States is just a few hours away, and as I prepare for my flight to Vegas (Baby) I’ll be attending my very FIRST CES conference along with my fellow colleagues from ALPHA; Katharine Belloir and Stephen Olshansky. Seasoned CES-ers Steve Greene and Erik Williams will be there too, getting in this year’s action.

Halloween is One Of My Favorite Holidays

October 25, 2011 9:31 AM | Posted By: Diane Stadlen, President

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Apparently I am not alone, which hopefully will eliminate some of the stares I might experience this year as I proudly display my jack-o-lantern socks and scarf. A recently released Harris Poll states that Echo Boomers (ages 18–34), GenX (35–46) and women rank Halloween as their third favorite holiday behind Christmas and Thanksgiving. Maybe it’s because schools have stopped Christmas/Holiday pageants, or that we all just need something fun between that long stretch from July 4th to Thanksgiving.

Smartphones: Our Boredom Savior

September 2, 2011 10:02 AM | Posted By: Diane Stadlen, President

I heard some interesting factoids the other day related to our collective addiction to our communication devices, in particular, our cell phones. According to a survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 83% of us Americans would be more bored without our cell phones.

The Ever-Changing, Never Dying Music Industry

May 11, 2011 1:31 PM | Posted By: Diane Stadlen, President

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom loved music, so much so she named me after one of her favorite songs. She then proceeded to sing it to me until, sadly, she forgot the words; and then I sang it to her. I would come home from school and she would turn the TV on to the dance party show or whatever was relevant to my taste, not hers. Then on Saturday nights, we all had to watch The Lawrence Welk Show.

Pizza wars

I love pizza. There, I’ve said it. Not just any pizza—Pizzeria Uno pizza. Growing up in Chicago, you had to decide early on where your loyalty lay. We had Gino’s, Lou Malnati’s, Nancy’s, Giordano’s, Uno’s, and on and on. But the original was Uno’s, created under the guiding hand of Rudy Malnati. The ‘kids’ hung out at Pizzeria Due, just down the street, which was a little more casual. You knew it was special when your date took you downtown to Uno’s or Due’s.

Our digital trash

May 14, 2010 12:07 PM | Posted By: Diane Stadlen, President

Seems like people are talking more and more about our carbon footprint and how we need to be more aware of our impact on the ecosystem of our planet. But what about the impact of our digital footprint, all that stuff we keep putting into cyberspace and on our computer hard drives that just keeps accumulating? The Internet is infinite, right? It will never be full, right?
