ALPHA Named 2014 Small Business of the Year by The Morrisville Chamber of Commerce

ALPHA is celebrating! We were awarded the 2014 James Pugh Small Business Award, given by the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce in honor of one of the town’s most successful businessmen in the late 1800s.

In addition, we helped launch an exciting new initiative for the LenovoDev developer community, DHL Express US engaged us to go all out on a comprehensive shipping guide, and AT&T Services, Inc. joins our growing client roster.

How to Build a Partner Portal by Steve Greene and Nicky Peele

If you have external partners selling your products and services, you need a partner portal. But what is a partner portal, why do you need one, and what are the essential elements that are required? ALPHA was challenged to create impactful retail endcaps, displaying the A530 and the Intel® CORETM i7 configuration of the Yoga 2 Pro in Best Buy stores during the holiday season. Ultimately, the endcaps needed to grab attention and drive sales during a busy period. As Christy White, Senior Art Director, explains: “In stores where hundreds of messages are coming at you at once, how do you stand out? That was our challenge.”

ALPHA developed a clean look that fully adhered to Lenovo’s brand guidelines at retail as well as Best Buy’s store guidelines. The finished endcaps were designed to draw shoppers in and engage them to explore and learn more about Lenovo’s incredibly sleek devices.

DHL Express US needed an instructional guide for onboarding new customers, outlining the entire first cycle of doing business with DHL from selecting a tool, shipping, and tracking, to then paying their first invoice. The objective was to create a handy printed reference guide that could also be used online as a flipbook. “We took the idea behind those For Dummies’ books and ran with it,” says Senior Art Director Kalyn Haba. She adds: “The idea was to create a piece that would be easy to use, navigate and understand. We looked at their technical systems and processes and re-framed them with simple language and purposeful graphics.” From simple packaging tips to checklists that can help avoid Customs delays, this new guide will make it easier for DHL Express customers to ship internationally.

The Lenovo Developer Program approached ALPHA to help launch a new online education series for their developer community (LenovoDev). The program consists of an ongoing series of online Google+ Hangout sessions with some of the development world’s top innovators. Our initial goal was to brand the program and surround it with an eye-catching visual treatment that would resonate with a discerning audience of developers, engineers, and technologists.

The first Eureka Hangout, held on February 12 of this year, was a tremendous success. Matt Presley and Carl Samos of OpenLabs, a Lenovo software partner, talked about developing an app for Lenovo’s Horizon table PC. In fact, you can explore the Eureka program and watch the entire playback of this first session.

We are pleased to announce that ALPHA is working with AT&Ts Emerging Business Markets organization on the development of their new enablement kit in support of their AT&T Partner ExchangeSM program. This is an exciting opportunity to support a highly defined community, and we’re thrilled to welcome AT&T to the ALPHA family.

ALPHA is dedicated to staying involved in projects, causes and organizations that help make a meaningful contribution to our community. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:

Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and ALPHA CEO Steve Greene has recently joined their board. Steve says: “I am honored to be a part of this incredible organization, and it is something everyone at ALPHA can be involved in. We are creating an ALPHA Job Shadow® experience for high school students to come in to ALPHA to participate in brainstorming and experience the creative process in an agency environment. It should be a lot of fun for everyone involved.” On February 8, Junior Achievement held its eighth annual Valentine’s Vegas Gala fundraiser at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC. Check out photos from the event on their Facebook page.

The First Tee of the Triangle

We’ve mentioned in previous newsletters that ALPHA’s own Nicky Peele is deeply involved with The First Tee of the Triangle, a unique organization that aims to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, teach positive life skills and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Now, Nicky steps up even further with her recent appointment to the Board of Directors of The First Tee of the Triangle. Nicky says: ‘I feel truly blessed to be part of this wonderful organization. Serving on the board gives me the opportunity to make an even greater impact in the lives of the amazing kids involved with The First Tee of the Triangle.’
